I was asked by a customer to build some shocks for a CB125. Being a small displacement and small frame bike, not a lot of options exist. Especially so with small formĀ factor coil springs. In this category, there exist basically no high performance options, never mind something with a choice of spring rate.
To complete this build I machine custom perches to adapt a commonly available small form factor spring, fitting a 70lbs/inch coil. Multiple rate options in this size range are available. For top and bottom mounts, the dampers were machined for spherical bearings. A complete rebuild of the damper was performed with a proprietary honing system used for the interior bore to provide optimum conditions for the piston seal. For the machined parts, in house gold anodize was applied to match the existing accent pieces. Where the close fitting coil nears the shock body, a 3D printed chafe guard was designed and added.
Overall, this was a neat project that shows the versatility of the RFY base package. Of course heavy modifications were needed, but a premium suspension system was achieved for a fairly rare and unusual use case.
This build is a one off, but if you want or need custom application dampers such as these, feel free to contact me with questions.
