For two days this past week I got to hang out at Virginia International Raceway. It was, as always, a bitter sweet experience. Hanging out at the track is in many ways like going home for me. The track can be a thousand miles away from Pittsburgh, but race tracks serve as an oasis for those who loves cars and racing, and being amongst people of a like mind can be both therapeutic and entertaining.
On this occasion I got the opportunity to drive a Swift DB-2 S2000 sports racer. If you aren’t familiar, this car features an aluminum monocoque with a full sport racer body. The engine is a classic 2 liter Ford Pinto power plant and produces around 140 ponies in race trim. Mated to a Hewland 4-speed dog box shifts are effortless and quick.
I could continue to pontificate, but I’ll spare you. Below is a high quality in car video from a lap that was a good bit faster than the existing lap record.
